Should I Be Worried About Bloody Discharge Between Periods?

default
Posted on Sat, 1 Dec 2012
Question: bloody discharge between periodshi. i am 31 yr old female, 5'7", 143 ibs. generally very healthy, current on immunizations and flu shots. however my period has been irregular for the past year or two. one month will be extremely heavy as i sonetimes can not make it home on time without an accident _live 30 min away from work, and the next month is very light with pretty much nothing going on. so i am concerned about:
1. why my periods are so timely but irregular
2. now since my last period i have been spotting brown, which is the old blood i understand but also seems like i am also on my period as i have a trully bloody discharge and if i may say patches of blood as i urinate. no smell no pain.
3. my every paps in the past has been questionable as docs have said during the exam uuuuh i dont like how it looks...too irrotated but then results had come back fine...
should i worry again?

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The variable amount of bleeding during the periods is not worrisome as long as your periods are regular. The amount of bleeding depends on the endometrial thickness and the hormonal levels in the body. If there is no mid cycle spotting then it is not likely to be due to any cervical cause. You can get your hemoglobin levels evaluated and thyroid profile done to detect any related cause.
The bleeding that is coming while urination is a normal variation and is not suggestive of any pathology.
Since your cervix looks unhealthy, it is best to go for an annual PAP smear regularly.
Hope this answers your query. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.

Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Yes you need to get your hemoglobin levels and thyroid profile evaluated.
Getting a PAP smear done will be most appropriate.
