Purple colour on the tongue could probably be due to similar coloured food stuff consumed or due to decay of the plaque of food material entangled between the taste bud papillae.

This is not serious unless it shows any distinct lesions associated with symptoms like pain , discharge etc.

Do clean your tongue with antiseptic solution like CHLORHEXIDINE this will help you get rid of the plaque.It does not disappear with one or two washes.It may need a minimum of a week to vanish on using Chlorhexidine.
