Nursing Mother. What Food And Medicine Should I Take?

Question: I delivered my Baby boy on XXXXXXX 21 2013.Now I am breast feeding him now.
I have a few queries related to my Health. Please let me know
•     What food intake I should take for good milk supply?
•     How to reduce my stomach? Any specific exercise I should do?
•     Can I take my baby out now to any long distance place?
•     Till how long should I take Iron and Calcium Tablets?

Here are the answers for your Queries
1- Food should be XXXXXXX in Iron , calcium and Vit D.
ake three full meals per day , this should include cereals , pulses , should be XXXXXXX in fibre , full of green leafy vegetables , less of saturated fats , sugar and salt.

Do not skip meals , eat fresh fruits in between meals.Drink lot of water as dehydration can reduce the milk production.
Fish , sea foods are XXXXXXX in iron and Vit C increases the iron absorption.
calcium intake should be 1500 mgm per day which can be taken in the form of supplements along with milk and curd.
Vit D should be taken in the form of sachets or tablets containing 2000 IU per day.
Avoid spicy and oily food.
If you take proper diet and rest , there will be good milk supply.The drugs available in the market contain shatavari herb and galactogouge which increase the milk production. You can consult your doctor before taking these drugs.

2- To reduce the stomach you should do yoga including pranayam.
Asanas should be simple like leg raising and head raising , lateral tilt etc and should be done under a yoga instructor or physiotherapist which will guide you for the post natal exercises.Avoid strenuous exercises.Regular morning walks also reduces the abdominal flab.

3 - Yes , you can take your baby out along with you for long distances.Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures.Take all the medicines required while travelling.Doctor should be in regular touch in case of any requirement.
Do not forget to vaccinate your baby.

4- As you have already taken the iron and calcium for two months , you can stop them after one month.If the ionized calcium levels , phosphate levels and thyroid status is normal and you are taking good food and doing mild activity and exercises , you will restore your calcium and iron stores.
