What Causes Insomnia, Poor Appetite And Diarrhea In A High BP Patient?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Sep 2016
Question: My heart is racing - 104 beats per minute - my blood pressure has been elevated 160/80 - I feel nauseous but haven't thrown up - haven't slept all week more than a couple hours at a time - poor appetite - diarrhea (greasy, watery) - I am 41 years old and had surgery 2 weeks ago to remove cysts and clean up scar tissue from previous surgeries. Doctor said everything on the right side was inflamed when he opened it up (ureter, fallopian tube, internal bleeding, etc). I had a major trauma Oct 2014 incl severed artery, damaged intestines, etc and over the next several months had surgeries to take out my gallbladder, repair bleeds, hysterectomy.

The high blood pressure is newly discovered today - as is the elevated heartbeat - and has been going on for over 8 hours now. This entire week I have felt out of sorts - forgetful - distracted - can't sleep - poor appetite - etc.

Just curious if I need to seek ER treatment or just monitor. Earlier today my doctor said he wanted my blood pressure checked weekly to monitor it and let him know if anything else came up - I just failed to ask what "anything else " included.

Hyperthyroidism? Thyroid storm? Maybe I am completely off and just being paranoid?

Brief Answer:
Better get investigation and review

Detailed Answer:
Hi Angey...
Welcome to hcm.
You have been operarated recently. There was lots of inflammatory state as is visible from the lap images. You should be having rest and sleep peacefully rather than having the whole week without sleep. Sleep deprivation per se may be a reason for high BP and racing heart.
There can be secondary infections in abdomen causing all this. You should get investigated, Get a Complete blood count, ESR and a Ultrasound of whole abdomen. Get reviewed by a local physician your locality after the reports as soon as possible.
I hope the advise will be helpful for you.
