What Causes Frequent Nose Bleeds In A 70 Year Old Person?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: My friend is having nose bleeds regularly lately. He is 70 years old and drinks alcohol every day. When he gets those nose bleeds, he goes to one of those doctors on duty places to get help to stop the bleeding. Is there something that is obviously causing the nosebleeds?

Brief Answer:
He needs to get a full examination and investigation!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these repeated nose bleeds that your friend has. The best approach is to get him fully evaluated for this. There are two main approaches.

1. To look if there are any local cause of this such as a wound, trauma, etc.
2. If there are no local answers, looking at the blood and general system to see if there are any reasons for day bleeding.

Initial findings from here would orient further investigations and management. For this, I will recommend that he talks with his primary care doctor to get the process started. While pressing with gauze would stop the bleeding, we need to identify the cause and treat if we would not want further episodes.

I hope this helps, I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel fee to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
