Suggest Treatment For Vaginal Yeast Infection

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Sep 2014
Question: My daughter has been unsuccessful in getting rid of a vaginal yeast infection with the help of her doctor. With prescriptions ranging from diflucan to chlortrimazole, she has been suffering now for over two months, back and forth. My daughter has had a blood test which came back negative on a variety of items, including diabetes, STD's etc. Now the yeast infection has become a rectal yeast infection. Two questions: how can I help her get rid of this for good ? and 2) what kind of a dr. should I be taking her to at this point. We have an appointment with a nutritionist to help with diet and have been seeing a gynecologist at a well known institution in NYC. Can you make any recommendations ?

Brief Answer:
Recurrent vaginal candidiasis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..

A vaginal swab should be taken and sent for a wet mount and a culture to confirm candidial infection.. Does she have any curdy white discaharge?

There are few things which she should do to get rid of the infection along with the antifungals.. These are:
1.Keep the area dry.
2. wear loose cotton undergarments.
3.Wipe the area with tissue from front to back. After passing motion never rub the same tissue into the vaginal area.
4. Avoid moisture in the area, if you tend to sweat change the undergarment frequently.
5. Avoid excessive use of soap in the vagina, that kills the normal flora. Wash with water and feminine wash is available which has PH same as vagina.
6. The sexual partner should also be treated simulaneously.
7. Change pad or tampoons frequently
8. Donot douch or use perfume /deodrants on the area which can alter the normal PH of the vagina.
9. Donot scratch the area, injury can furthur flare up the infection.

These measures along with a course of fluanazole for 4 weeks and Clotrimazole vaginal tablet for a week will help to reduce infection

She need to visit a gynaecologist and get a swab for wet mount and culture to confirm candidial infection or any other bacteria. If so, then that infection should be treated for complete relief.

Hope I have answered your queries. Feel free to ask any doubts.. Good day.

Should the fluconazol be ib tablet or applicator form? My daughter has been following all of the other instructions, and does not have a sexual partner. Her yeast infection has been confirmed as well. It just keeps bouncing back and forth from the front to the anal area now. Thank you forbyour recommendations.

Brief Answer:
Flucanazole in tablet form

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
Flucanazole should be taken orally once a week for 4 weeks.Clotrimazole vaginal tablet should be inserted for 3 days. Clotrimazole cream with a steroid should be applied locally in the affected area for a week twice daily followed by plain clotrimazole for a week. Always consult your doc prior to using the tablet as it requires good follow up and supervision.

Once the infection is cleared, either discard the old undergarment or wash it boiling water prior to next use. Avoid undergarments at night to allow air circulation..

Hope I have answered your queries. If your doubts are cleared, please close the conversation and rate my answer. Good day.
