Brief Answer:
Consoling for now and prepare for an appointment

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am sorry what is happening with you couple. Here is my piece of advice.
How long she was pregnant for?
If it is less than 7 weeks then you can let the spotting happen. Spotting can be seen in threatened miscarriage and may not be complete. It can be saved with pills after seeing doctor. If there is great bout of blood then it means she might have fully miscarried it.

At this time you just console her till she gets better meanwhile take an appointment with her doctor for an Ultrasound scan. The scan would reveal full details.
