Is Total Cholesterol Of 228 Considered High?

default
Posted on Sat, 5 Jul 2014
Question: My total cholesterol is 228. It shows HDL cholesterol 71 (in range) and LDL cholesterol123( in range) Is that high? Do I need medication

A few months ago I was taking Crestor 10 mg. Now, the doctor says it was ok and he didn't prescribe it. I just want to be sure if I need it or not because. I feel I am sleeping more hours now. About 7 to 8 hours. I usually sleep 4 to 5 hours.

Thank you very much,

Brief Answer:
YOu may need medications later...for now, monitor!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Taking a look at these numbers, you do not need medications right now. However, I will like to know what the numbers were before you were put on Crestor. If the numbers were very high, then these good looking numbers may be a reflection of how well Crestor has worked rather than suggesting that you do not need medications for cholesterol again.

For now, monitor your cholesterol numbers in the next three months. If they are good, then you may continue without medications. If they are on the rise, I will suggest that you go back on medications as they maybe needed to effectively correct these numbers. Exercise and low fats consumption helps with high cholesterol levels. Pease, eat healthy and exercise often.

Your sleep level is good. This is what I would have loved to hear. It has improved from bad to good and it is rather a plus and not something you should worry about. We all deserve averagely 8hours of sleep per day.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications should need be. Thanks so much for using our services.
