Is Tinnitus A Symptom Of Alzheimer’s Disease?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 May 2017
Question: My father and mother both had Alzheimer's. Father at 77 and mother at 91. In XXXXXXX I will be 71 and worry I will get this dreaded disease. I have Tinnitus and I read there is a connection with Dementia symptoms. Should I get checked for peace of mind? I have no symtoms that I think reflect early Alzheimer's. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Since no sings, no need to worry about Alzheimer's.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HealthcareMagic.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Tinnitus is not a specific symptom of Alzheimer's, its causes range from aging to side effects of some drugs and in rare cases vascular malformations of brain vessels.

Since you or others around you don't notice any decline or compromise of cognition, I don't think you should worry about Alzheimer's for now.

However, an evaluation by your Neurologist mainly about the tinnitus cause is the right thing to do right now.

You can also discuss early signs of Alzheimer's in order to recognize them in the time since there is inheritance too.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
