Brief Answer:
Physical therapy only means.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HealthcareMagic.

As a Neurologist currently working in a Stroke Unit I deal with stroke patients on a daily basis. Seeing what they go through I really wish there was such a thing as a stroke recovery formula so that I could better help them. Unfortunately such a formula doesn't exist. The medication serves to prevent future strokes from happening and preventing complications.
The recovery from a stroke which has already taken place is dependent on the capacity of the undamaged brain to create new synapses, connections, which will try to replace the lost cell's function, an ability of the brain called plasticity. It is a process which requires time, months and it is not something which can be influenced with any formula, any drug. The only thing which helps this process is physical therapy. With proper physical therapy and at your provided age of 58 (plasticity is better then later on in life) there usually are good chances of improvement.

Dear Dr. Olsi Taka,

I did ask about sroke recovery formula because, six months ago, I had a minor stroke, that is while I was standing talking on the phone, with my left hand holding the phone about 20 minutes, and I felt tingling and numb from the right side of my head, face, right hand, arm, and down to my right leg, then I immediately went to the hospital emergency room to take care. The hospital checked, I had high blood pressure, I lay down for 4 hours, and did the scan test, found nothing. I woke up 3 hours after and I felt the tingling symptom was gone but the right face still numb and the right hand fingers also still numb. My right leg feel ok, no numbness, no tingling any more. I went home. I did see my family doctor and I got high blood pressure prescription as above. I did consult with a Chinese medicine doctor in town, and got two herbal formulas: Blood stasisClear (XUE FU ZHU YU PIAN) and stroke recovery or stroke control formula and accupunture treatments. I did balance my diets since and seven months passed, I still have high blood pressure (138/98) and numbness and tingling on three fingers on my right hand. I will continue with balancing my diets and my medications both western and tradictional Chinese medicines. I also continue on routine exercise and I did practice soccer ball weekly. Your advise is helpful but sorry western medicine has no stroke recovery formula.

I remain at your next comments. Pao

Brief Answer:
Stroke hasn't been properly diagnosed, tests are needed.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for completing the picture.

Based on that description I would say that the diagnostic process has not been complete. I am not even sure that you have had a stroke, those symptoms may be due to other causes such as multiple sclerosis or spinal cord compression. So it's not much use to speak of stroke recovery when there may not be a stroke at all.

I wonder if you were seen by neurologist. Since the CT was normal the diagnostic process should have been continued by scheduling a MRI. If a stroke is indeed found other tests should be done to search for a cause particularly at you age so that preventive treatment is given to avoid future (more disabling) strokes in the future. Your blood pressure should be treated as well, whether a stroke is found on MRI or not.

Nothing wrong with balancing your diet and I do not have anything against chinese herbs and acupuncture, but you haven't been diagnosed properly by western medicine up to now.

Let me know if I can further assist you.
