Is The HIV 4th Generation Test Result Conclusive At 27 Days Post Exposure?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Feb 2017
Question: I took a hiv 4th gen and rna pcr at 9 and 27 days post potential exposure to a high risk situation. Both negative. I originally counted for some reason 29 days but I miss counted so it was really 27 days. I know the magic number is 4 and 6 weeks so my question is would one day from the minimum of 28 days really change much? Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

WHO (World Health organization) considers this test conclusive if it is negative after 6 weeks of the exposure as they are 95 % accurate. So you don't have HIV and can relax. Others advise to retest at 3 months to be absolutely
sure. At 3 months this test is 99.9 % accurate. So if you want to be extra sure then you can repeat it in 3 months time. One day doesn't make a difference.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
