Is Swollen Lump On Rim Of Penis Foreskin Sign Of Penile Cancer?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Jul 2014
Question: Hi, I've had soreness and bleeding under foreskin for about 10 years, after sex. Last week, I discovered a swollen lump along the rim of the foreskin, approx 1cm long. I had made love and there was some bleeding.mid also masturbated a couple of times in previous days. essentially painless, albeit some itching seems present. I'm a 43 year old, uncircumcised. I read the statistics re penile cancer and rareness in the uk, I saw a Dr yesterday and he has referred me to a consultant. I'm just extremely worried about penile cancer

Considerations

Detailed Answer:
thanks for sending the question.

It is not uncommon to have soreness and irritation in this part of the body. At the same time if you are appreciating a significant degree of skin change I would recommend that you bring this to the attention of your primary care doctor or urologist. If they can appreciate a significant change they might recommend some type of biopsy.

Commonly, irritation in this area is caused by fungal infections and inflammation. We want to be very safe and careful however to make sure there is nothing else more worrisome going on.

Penile cancer is extremely rare and I am glad that your doctor has referred you to a consultant. This is the most appropriate way to examine this type of situation. Try to take comfort in the fact that you are proceeding towards definitive examination to rule out anything worrisome-like cancer.

Thanks again for sending your question. Please let me know if you have any additional specific questions.

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it. I saw the consultant tonight - his view was that he'd never seen anything like it, zoons balanitis being closest, but for safety we are going with circumcision and biopsy in 9 days time. I'm worried that this will resolve the big issue, but that there may have been some spread (I believe that nodes are ok) and that worse is to follow. I can only pray all is fine
