Is Spotting A Week Before Periods Be Considered As Implantation Bleeding?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 May 2015
Question: I have been spotting lightly, just when I wipe (dark brown) on and off for 9 days now. It first started about 6 days before my period was due. I thought this might be implantation bleeding as we have been ttc for about a year now. There has been 2 times when it was bright red (once was immediately after sex) but then stopped. 2 days later started dark brown spotting again. Still only when wiping. I am now 4 days late for my period and it just started getting a little heavier and darker. Now containing little tiny clots with blackish stringy things. I have been getting mild cramps off and on but nothing painful. And my breasts have gone on and off with sharp pains as well, but other then that everything seems normal... I have taken 4 hpt all of which have been negative. Is this an early miscarry or could I still be pregnant?

Brief Answer:
many possible causes

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
First of all if you were having a miscarriage then your pregnancy tests would be showing up positive.
It is most likely that you are just having some irregular bleeding from hormonal shifts or other cause.
However, pregnancy tests are most reliable one week after a missed period in the first morning urine.
If you wait another few days until your period is a week late and your urine pregnancy test is still negative then you can feel sure that you are not pregnant and have not miscarried.
Other things can cause irregular bleeding so if this is unusual for you see your doctor for an exam and possibly some blood tests.
Regards,
Dr. Robinson
