Is Root Canal Treatment Necessary For Tooth Pain?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jun 2014
Question: I had been having some pain in tooth #18, not too bad - a 1 or 2 on a 10 scale except when wearing my nightguard one night when it shot up to a 7 or 8. Made an appt with my reg dentist who advised tooth is loose and xray showed a possible need for a root canal but he wasnt sure and referred me to an endodontist. The endo took a new set of xrays, did a few tests and determined I had a deep cavity in the tooth. She advised I would need to a root canal to correct the problem. In your opinion, would this be the proper treatment in this case? I currently have no pain in that tooth, even when biting/chewing food

Brief Answer:
Root canal treatment, Scaling

Detailed Answer:
Hello, XXXXXX ,

This is Dr. Priyanka tiwari answering your query,

I have gone through your query , and reports (X-ray ) you have attached as far as I have observed in that restored tooth there is exposure of pulp and bone loss, At apex of root there is slight radiolucency so there is widening of periodontal ligaments and infection is also present at apical (apex) of root .

What I will suggest you that you should consult endodontist go for Root canal treatment and as there is horizontal bone loss you should go for oral prophylaxis also.

Do XXXXXXX warm saline gargle two - three times a day, Maintain good oral hygiene , Do regular mouthwash .

Hope I have answered your query,

If you have further query I will be happy to help.
