Brief Answer: To an extent, yes. Detailed Answer: Hi, Welcome to Healthcare Magic! Red wine is indeed beneficial for health but only when taken in moderation. It contains resveratrol and other substances which have anti-oxidant activity and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and other diseases which are associated with oxidation induced damage. However, the point to be noted is that the benefits of red wine are not due to its alcohol content but due to the presence of other chemicals. Secondly, there are many other foods that are rich in anti-oxidants. Thirdly, red wine cannot save the body from the harmful effects of its alcohol content. Therefore, it is both good and bad for the body. If one decides to take red wine regularly, care should be taken to ensure that it is done in moderation. Best wishes. Dr Preeti Parakh MD Psychiatry

Brief Answer: As below. Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXXXX Beans, nuts, berries and fruits are very rich sources of anti-oxidants. Among the different beans, kidney beans (rajma) is a particularly rich source. Red beans are not usually used in Indian cooking, but are rich in anti-oxidants. Nuts like almonds, cashewnuts, walnuts, pistachio, peanuts etc are also rich sources. Fruits like pears, apples, plums, peaches, raisins, figs and dates are good sources. Berries and fruits which are deeply coloured, like cranberry, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, cherries, grapes, pomegranate, mango, etc are also rich in anti-oxidants. In addition, vitamins A, C and E have anti-oxidant activity and so, foods rich in them are good sources. Multivitamin tablets having these vitamins also have anti-oxidant activity. Selenium and other minerals also are anti-oxidants and are included in most multivitamin+mineral tablets. Best wishes. Dr Preeti Parakh MD Psychiatry
