Posted on Thu, 20 Oct 2016
Question: My age is 36 years. I don't have any recent medical history. Yesterday in my company, one hospital setup the health check up camp. I checked my random blood sugar and that was 462 mg/dl. That was shocking to me as i am not feeling any symptom of hyperglycemia. Doctor suggest me to do BS- FF, BS- PP and HbA1C today.
Fasting sugar is 281, BS - PP (2hours) is 317. HbA1C is 11.8%
In family, My mother has diabetes.
Have develop diabetes?
Is it type2 diabetes?
How can i manage this?
What diet i have to follow?
please suggest the treatment plan

Brief Answer:
Hello Sir, It is Diabetes

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir, Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your query and understood your concerns. I have gone through your report.

Sir it is Diabetes. Most of the times diabetes is diagnosed like this accidentally only. All cases may not show symptoms. Family history of diabetes is also a risk factor for diabetes.

The management plan goes like this:

First take a tablet with Metformin 500 + Glimipiride 2mg combination of any brand twice a day. Get this tablet prescribed by a local diabetologist. It should be taken 15-20 minutes before eating. one before breakfast and one before dinner. Try this medication for 20 days and once again get Fasting and post prandial test done. Based on the results of blood sugar levels, the dosage can be adjusted there after.

Exercise like brisk walking for atleast 20 -30 minutes a day is to be started.

Regarding diet sir, eat small and frequent meals. that is eat small quantity, and instead of three eat 5 times a day.
No sugar, no sweets. reduce them to minimal and slowly stop completely. Diet should contain more of leafy vegetable curries and less rice. No vegetables grown under ground should be taken.

Sir, follow these guidelines and you can get back with results after 20 days. If you have any further queries, you can get back to us.

Thank you sir.
