Is Pregnancy Possible Soon After A Miscarriage?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Oct 2014
Question: I had protected intercourse with a woman around 9 and a half weeks ago on July 10th. A short time period after that she had unprotected sex with her ex and on August 1 she told me she thought she was pregnant. When I asked her if she thought the baby was mine she said no because besides having protected sex with me she said she had her menstrual cycle later that same month after we had sex and she said that she would not have had her period if I had gotten her pregnant . About a week after she told me this she said she went through a miscarriage. I did not think much more about it until today when I found she might be pregnant again. Is there any chance that if she is pregnant that this child could be mine even though I have not had sex with her since July 10th. I'm still concerned that there might be a chance she may have gotten pregnant by me. What concerns me most about this is the time period after her and I had sex and when she told me she thought she was pregnant because it was a relatively short period of time. I need help clearing up these concerns.

Brief Answer:
Request clarification on miscarriage

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in.

I have read through your query in detail.
I did not understand what you mean by she had a miscarriage in August and is pregnant again. This is not possible and I wish you please clarify the same.

Anyways coming to your doubts, in a pregnancy we always follow dates and scans. It is important to know the date of her last menstrual period. This will help in calculation of the probable date of conception and if you were the father. The age of pregnancy also needs to be matched with the the age of baby on ultrasound scan.

Keeping aside the miscarriage, if she is continuing with the pregnancy then the ultrasound age will help us to confirm if she is lying. This is assuming that she is telling the truth about the onset of last her periods.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

What I mean is she claimed that sometime around the first week of August she said she had a miscarriage and now she thinks she might be pregnant again after the miscarriage. Is it possible that she was still pregnant through the miscarriage? After her and I had sex she said she had her menstrual period a couple weeks later however since then I don't know because I haven't spoken to her about it? How long after a miscarriage does a woman have to wait to get pregnant?

Brief Answer:
Miscarriage and pregnancy are impossible together

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

I assume she had her periods in the 4th week of July 2014. It is not possible to have a miscarriage and be pregnant at the same time.

A woman can get pregnant in the cycle immediately following the miscarriage. However she can have no periods for 8 weeks after miscarriage and I don't know if this is why she thinks that she is having a pregnancy.
If possible I suggest you get ultrasound scan done to confirm miscarriage.
Hope your query is answered.

I spoke to the woman today and she told me she was 5 or 6 weeks pregnant and it has been over 9 and a half weeks since her and I had sex does this time period rule me out as being the father of her child? One other thing I noticed is the time frame she has given me for her current pregnancy which is right around the time she said she had a miscarriage. Is it possible for her to get pregnant again right after having a miscarriage? If so how long after a miscarriage can a woman get pregnant?

Brief Answer:
You are not the father confirmed

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

I confirm that you cannot be the father of the child she is carrying.
The female body is ready to conceive again immediately after a miscarriage. Hormone levels are at their highest, so infertility is reduced and fertility increased. So a woman can have a pregnancy within days of a miscarriage.
