Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking Plan-B?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Jul 2015
Question: My periods are not that stable they vary from 28 days to 32 days... I had sex 3 weeks ago in the middle of my cycle with condom and took a plan b pill later that day. I don't feel any pregnancy symptoms, any at all. But I should be getting my period by now and I have been having this white discharge that looks like when I am ovulation and a few small lower back pains here and then. I feel as the period will be here very soon but I am so nervous and maybe the pill also have messed up my cycle.. should I be worried?

Brief Answer:
delayed menses

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query to HCM.

The fact that you had sex 3 weeks back, protected sex and then you tok plan-b over it though got you covered from pregnancy even though you had sex during your fertile period, but ideally speaking the withdrawal bleeding should have ensued within 10 days of taking the plan-b. As the menses have not resumed, it would be best to get a serum beta hcg test done to rule out any pregnancy first and then an ultrasound transvaginally to check for endometrial thickness. If the thickness is more than 10mm and in absence of any pregnancy, you can wait for your menses to resume in next 5 days and if not then opt for a progesterone withdrawal for initiating the bleed. If it still doesn't happen then D&C would be the next option. I hope i have answered your query in detail,
Wishing you good health,
Regards
