Is Pregnancy Possible By Having Unprotected Sex During Menstruation?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Oct 2016
Question: My girlfriend started her period 4 days ago, and today is probably her last day of bleeding as there was none this morning. We had unprotected sex last night but i did not ejaculate inside of her vagina. We were debating on buying the plan B pill but didnt know if it was needed. We also have something we need cleared up, i was informed that a woman is more fertile and more likely to become pregnant inbetween her periods, so for example if her last day on her period is today then she would be more fertile a week and a half or 2 weeks from today. She claims a woman is more likely to become pregnant right after her last day of bleeding or when her period is over. Could you please let me know the facts on this and if the plan B pill is necessary.

Brief Answer:
Plan B may be required in case of irregular periods

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

If periods are regular, then possibility of pregnancy is not likely just at the end of menstruation, as ovulation occurs around mid cycle.

Plan B should be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

In your case, if you are using regular plan B, then the periods may be irregular and possibility of pregnancy can be there.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Well she has a regular period. But plan b has made her start her period a week early, resulting in finishing a week early as well, but if shes having a period doesnt that mean there is no egg to be fertalized?

Brief Answer:
Ovulation is erratic

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
The withdrawal bleeding after plan B is due to hormonal changes and ovulation is erratic after its intake.
I will advise her to take a repeat dose of plan B to prevent any pregnancy.
