Is Poor Visual Memory A Sign Of Mild Cognitive Impairment?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Jun 2015
Question: On the rey auditory verbal learning test I scored highly. But on the rey figure copy I scored low (bottom 5%). Is this cause for concern? Why is my verbal learning good but visual memory terrible? Could this be mci?

Brief Answer:
You seem to be perfectly normal, nothing to worry about, no MCI seen

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I do not really see a cause for concern if you scored well on the rey auditory verbal learning test, this clearly rules out MCI (mild cognitive impairment). I see no cause for concern here and so I do not think you should be worried about this.

I see that you are quite worried about having memory related issues, and I honestly think you are just getting paranoid about the issue. You are a young male who has undergone all such tests to find any issues, if there were any. I think you should stop worrying and live your life to the fullest, your youth is the best part of your life. Visual memory cannot be directly associated with MCI as it can easily provide false readings depending factors like mood, level of concentration, etc.

I think you are well mentally and with all the information you have gathered on the topic, are even almost equal to a doctor on the topic which is a great feat mentally. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
