Is Pain In The Bladder After Lithotripsy Normal?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Mar 2017
Question: I received lithotripsy 8 days ago which was successful for kidney stones. I have taken cipro for 3 days and also pain medication. I do not have a uti . This was prescribed as a precaution. I do have interstitial cystitus which has been in total remission for 15 years until now. Bladder pain is now horrible. Is there a link between lithotripsy, kidney stones and bladder pain?

Brief Answer:
Yes it can be

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.

Such pain is not uncommon, since lithotripsy may cause small pieces of stones to be pushed into bladder and then it may cause irritations for 1-2 weeks after the procedure.

You should finish the antibiotic course, drink more fluids, raspberry tea and take anti-spasmodics. If there is still no improvement, then you should get Cystoscopy and ultrasound-KUB done .

Wish you good health.
Regards
