Posted on Tue, 21 Oct 2014
Question: Hi Doctor, on Sep-1 I went to a massage parlor. After the massage i sucked the breast of the lady when 1-2 drops of milk came to my mouth. I immediately spit it out. Around 17th Sep- I had a cold attack. Nasal congestion - yellow phlegm - but no fever. It went away in 1 week. Do I need to go for a HIV test ?

Brief Answer:
HIV risk is very negligible.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query

You had no sex. Sucking breast is not infectious. Even if there is secretions the risk is negligible only.
The risk of HIV transmission through breast milk is 25- 30% only, if there is a continuous feeding by a infected mother.

In your case the HIV status of that girl is unknown. There is every possibility that she could be HIV negative. Even if she is HIV positive woman, sucking her breast secretion once and the same was spit out, there is no risk for HIV. So you can ignore. HIV testing is not necessary for you. Nothing wrong in going for HIV testing and confirm that you are HIV free. That will relieve unnecessary mental tension.

Brief Answer:
Cold is a common nuisance and not related to HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Earliest manifestation of HIV can occur only after 4-6 weeks, if there is any HIV infection, definitely not earlier than that. So your symptoms of COLD and nasal congestion has no relation to HIV.
Cold is a quite common problem for anybody. This can very well occur after a close intimacy with some body who has cold or sore throat as an air born infection.
There is no chance for HIV to you.
