Brief Answer:
Procedure relatively safe, good success rates and blood pressure acceptable

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query

With such a blood pressure, though mild hypertension, nasal cauterization is relatively safe and this blood pressure is no serious issue of concern. Also blood coagulation profile needs to be maintained within normal limits.

Success rates are relatively high, over 80 percent especially when carried out by an experienced surgeon .

Thanks and kind regards

I have had nasal surgery and i was told the bleeding couldnt be stopped by cauterization, are there reasons why? Can it be because of high blood pressure my normal pressure is 132/82 but it raised to just over 150/85 during surgery i am interested because i wonder why my blood pressure went up! Is this normal during surgery or do i need to try to control my blood pressure further

Brief Answer:
Isolated raised blood pressure stress or anxiety related

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the follow up question,

I think you need not worry so much for this is a simple, effective, minor and quick surgical procedure and is very effective in correcting recurrent bleeding in most persons.

It is not surprising that you could have a slightly raised blood pressure, higher than the normal before such a procedure. In your case, it is an isolated increase in the systolic blood pressure values and could be interpreted mainly as due to stress or anxiety related to the procedure. I doubt in your case if this raised isolated systolic blood pressure could be a contraindication or a serious issue to worry about related to this surgical procedure.

I suggest you remain calm, be positive and feel good for this is an effective minor surgical procedure.

Thanks and kind regards,

Dr Bain
