Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: Hi ...my wife is six weeks (her last period was on may 4th2016)pregnant. When we had the scan done last friday17thjune2016, the doctor told he could see only gestational sac but no fetus yet. In the report he mentioned that she is just 4weeks3days into her pregnancy and asked us to take scan after two weeks. That same day night she had spotting and doc gave hcg injection and asked to take dupaston 10mg tablets 3 per day and gave sustain 200mg injection. From yesterday the spotting increased and its more like period bleeding. Let us know if this is normal?

Brief Answer:
Can be threatened abortion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
An increase in bleeding and discrepancy in the fetal sac growth is suggestive of a threatened abortion. The medicines that she has been prescribed are to help her continue the pregnancy. You can get her serum beta HCG levels evaluated to find out if the fetus is growing inside or not. Do continue with the medicines and take absolute bed rest so that the bleeding gradually stops.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
