Is It Safe To Take Splenda For Obesity?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Jun 2015
Question: I have a couple of questions. I am about to begin a diet tomorrow - I am morbidly obese - I want to know if splenda is okay to use - I use splenda in both my iced green tea and in my coffee. I am going to post the diet I am about to start, and please tell me if it acceptable to still drink the green tea with splenda, the coffee with splenda, and if I can drink diet sodas. I also have a great deal of trouble with swelling in my feet and legs - even taking lasix twice daily it is still bad. Is there any thing else I can do help that? It is painful. Okay, here is the diet:
Meal 1: 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 cup blueberries, one scoop carb-free protein shake

Meal 2: 3 egg whites, 1/4 cup plain potatoes

Meal 3: 3 oz. ground turkey, low-carb wrap with a cup of romaine lettuce

Meal 4: 3 oz. grilled chicken and 1/4 of an avocado

Meal 5: 6 oz. fish with a 1/4 cup steamed jasmine rice and six pieces of asparagus

Meal 6: 6 oz. of 99% lean ground beef with 1/4 avocado and 1 cup romaine lettuce

No alcohol was allowed and most condiments were banned (with the exception of hot sauce, since it added a negligible amount of extra sugar or fat)

I will also be trying to do much more exercise. Thank you very much for any help you can give me.
Sorry, I also take metformin.

Brief Answer:
I will reinforce the diet plan with some modifications

Detailed Answer:
I feel really happy to welcome you back at my virtual clinic. I appreciate your genuine health worries and diet plans.

You were supposed to start the diet plan couple of days back, but its never too late, and it always takes some time to switch onto a different diet plan. I assure you that it suits you the best with the modifications which I already answered previously and will explain again for your ease.
My suggestions for you are:
*In meal 2 take only 1 egg white and take little less potatoes.
*In meal 4 you should take only 2 ounces of grilled chicken (and thats too, only twice weekly), its because you are already hypertensive with swelling in peripheral areas of the body.
*In Meal 6, take only 2 ounces of beef (and thats too, only twice weekly).

And yes its nice to hear that you are starting exercise too. Meditation will also help you. Yoga and stretch exercises are good. For Blood pressure patients its better to start with cardio exercises rather, instead of weight lifting and heavy exercises. I suggest aerobics for you.

Yes Splenda poses no risk to the blood sugar level. It's calorie free component of your diet, but don't forget about the calories you drinks have. Caffeine in high amounts is not good for your Blood pressure and swellings. Either take coffee or tea. Not both of them, please.

Consult your physician, he will check the extent of swelling and may need to change the dosage of Lasix or may need to add some medicine after physical examination. Once you reduce 10pounds, your BP may come down from 5-10mmHg. It will lessen your leg swellings significantly.

Hope I helped you as always. Thanks for positive feedback and five star rating last time. In future if you need any help, feel free to ask me a question directly from my profile. Wish you a happy beginning with new lifestyles, healthier and more confident way of living. I am always there to help you in this journey

Would it be best to buy some decaffeinated coffee and tea? I can certainly do that. I have ordered a Gazelle exercise machine, as it is supposed to be excellent for a cardio workout.

Yes decaffeinated Coffee and tea is a good alternate. Now you may go with that without the risks I mentioned for you earlier.

Its best for you to start with that cardio first and you stepped forward and ordered your health companion at home. I hope you will reduce in few months. But it needs determination, and I trust you have abundant of that.
