Is It Safe To Give Novofran For Stomach Infection?
Please do not worry - nothing will happen
Detailed Answer:
Hi...please do not worry... Nothing will happen with few doses. The serious adverse effects of tendon rupture which you might be concerned about is based on animal studies and not humans.... So please do not panic.
I have never used ofloxacin in any of my patients, as its required very rarely in this age group, but some pediatricians do, but I have not seen any adverse reaction till now.
Coming to your basic problem if stomach infection....what do you mean by it? Was there blood in the motion? Unless there's blood in stools, antibiotics are not indicated in plain watery diarrhea.
Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry. Antibiotics might worsen if unnecessarily used causing antibiotic associated diarrhea. I suggest you use zinc supplements & ORS...

Zinc supplements and ORS
Detailed Answer:
Hi...
1. For fever Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
Meftal contains Mefenamic acid which is a NSAID. It carries the risk of gastritis and renal problems in the long run. Please do not use Meftal.
I have published a paper regarding this and I am sending you the link to it. Kindly see.

2. Zinc supplements have the advantage of decreasing the diarrhea volume and is the only recommended medicine by World Health Organization (WHO) for viral diarrhea. Please consult your pediatrician regarding the brands available in your area.
3. ORS is oral rehydration solution and it is also the best replacement solution for the losses the kid has during diarrhea and it is also recommended by World Health Organization (WHO) for viral diarrhea. It si available universally all over the world...any pharmacy will have it. You have mix the power according to the recommendation on the pack and keep giving it sip by sip to the kid whenever he wants water.
Do not worry even if the kid doesn't accept solid food. Active kid and a kid who is passing urine well is a kid who is recovering from viral diarrhoea and please stop ofloxacin.
