Is It Safe To Conceive While Taking Oosure Tablets?

Question: Hello Doctor,

This is further to my previous query regarding a problem with Menstrual cycle for my wife. We consulted a gynecologist for menstrual cycle variation (15-17 days) and the suggested scanning. The last period date was Aug 5 and we did scanning on Aug 20 as per doctor suggestion. There is no problem like cyst or any issues and doctor told there is one follicle of 11mm size and not have much development as expected. She prescribed to take Oosure tablets for 30 days we stared the course. Also she suggested CCQ 50 tablets for 5 days from the next period start date. Even though she started taking Oosure from Aug 20, we were trying to become pregnant till Aug 24.
Now no period happened after Aug 5 and it is almost 29 days now. She is feeling tired and hungry always now after started this OOSURE tablets. I have following questions on this:
     Is there any chance to be conceived in this month or why the period is getting delayed?
     Is it safe to try for a baby while taking OOSURE tablets?
     Is there any side effects for OOSURE and CCQ50 tablets?
     Is it good to do a pregnancy test now?

I understand your concern..

Oosure is a vitamin supplement which helps in regularising the periods. It effects on ovulation is not well defined. It doesnot have any side effects and can be safely taken while trying for pregnancy.

CCQ50 is a drug for ovulation induction. It helps in development of follicles. It is taken from the second day of periods for 5 days and followed up with follicular study to know the time of ovulation. It is not given for more than 6 months as it have some side effects like ovarian hyperstimulation symptoms, GI symptoms , chest discomfort in some etc. But dont worry only 1 or 2 patients in 100 patients will have this problem. No known adverse effect is seen in fetus as the drug level comes down in the blood by the time patient conceives.

Since your wife always had an early period, it would be advisable to get a urine pregnancy test with early morning urine sample. Tiredness and excessive hunger can be due to pregnancy. Delayed periods can also be due to stress , thyroid problems, defective ovulation etc. When scan was done was anything mentioned about PCOD?

If pregnancy test is positive, stop all the medication and start folic acid. It negative, then take progesterone for 5 days to get withdrawal bleeding. Take CCQ50 from 2nd day of period for 5 days and follow up with follicular study so that you can have a timed intercourse..

Eat healthy and avoid stress. Drink plenty of oral fluids. Hope I have answered your queries. Good day..

PCOD is not there, which is mentioned on scan report. Is it right time to do the pregnancy test? I mean it will be able to get the result this time, just want to know the date where I can do the test.

Last period date was : Aug 5
Scan date : Aug 20

Thanks for writing..

Since the exact date of ovulation was not known, the exact time to get a pregnancy test cannot be predicted. However get a pregnancy test by 12th Sep, that is 1 week overdue her expected period.

You can get a hcg blood test now. Value greater than 25 confirms a pregnancy.
