Is It Safe To Conceive When On Zanocin?

Question: Hi,
I'm trying for a baby and i'm on medidation zanocin. if i conceive while on meditation will it create any problem.
Also what if i conceive after finishing the course of zanocin.
Please advice !!

Welcome here.

I can understand your concerns.

Zanocin (Ofloxacin) has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. This means that animal studies have revealed evidence of fetotoxicity and teratogenicity. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.

However, there are reports which suggest cartilage and bone damage in fetus in humans.

In short, I would suggest you to conceive after completing the course of zanocin. There would not be a problem then.

Hi,

I'll ovaluate this month probably on 13-16 march, So if i complete my zanocin course by 10 or 11th march, can i go ahead with the planning ??
Or should i wait for 1 month so that zanocin affects can be neutralized.

Also, can you suggest some medicines which can be taken in case of UTI (Pus cells in urine) so that i can plan to conceive this month only if medications are still going on (Safe in pregnancy)

Detailed Answer:
Yes, you can go for planning pregnancy this month only. Zanocin does not affect ovulation. There wont be any adverse affects on fetus if your zanocin course is getting over by 10th.

Nitrofurantoin is relatively safe antibiotic for UTI in pregnancy.

Hi,

My Doc suggested me to take Niftran 100 mg (2 times a day ) now and Zevit (1 times a day) with Urispas (3 times a day).

Need your reviews on this.
This course is for 7 days i.e. it'll end on 10th Mrach. so just to be double sure i can try for baby this month only.
