Is It Safe To Be Around Children Post Shingles Vaccination?

default
Posted on Sat, 28 Feb 2015
Question: My husband and I want to get the Shingles vaccine. We are 67. However I take care of my 20 month old grandson and am worried he might get infected from me (he has had a chicken pox vaccine). Also my daughter is trying to get pregnant. Would it be bad for me to be around her after I get the shot? She hasn't had chicken pox but did have the vaccine when she was a child. The pharmacy says it will be fine but they might just say that to make the money. I sure don't want my husband to get Shinglrs though. Please give me your opinion. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
it is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

It is safe to be around your grandchild and your daughter. There has not been any documented cases where transmission has taken place to others after vaccination to an immunocompetent individual. Please be free to be around them.
However I must add here that in any case if you develop fever or any skin lesions ( in extreme rarity ) you can avoid contact with them

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
