Brief Answer:
Repositioning

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I completely understand your concerns but don't worry. It's perfectly normal behavior in newborns as they had developed cuddled inside the womb.

Although lying on their backs is the safest way for babies to sleep, keeping babies on their backs during most of their awake hours can lead to positional plagiocephaly, also known as flattened head syndrome.

So, I would recommend you to do repositioning.
Repositioning involves changing the position of your baby's head while she is sleeping and during activities while your baby is awake. Repositioning keeps your baby from always resting on the same area, allowing for a more even distribution of your baby's head weight and helping to prevent flat spots. Changing head positions also helps strengthen the muscles in the neck, which are important as babies begin to hold up their heads and sit up on their own.

You may use the following measures to do it:

1. Consider moving your baby's crib to different areas of the room; but be sure not to have your baby's crib always facing a wall. Babies are attracted to light and will try to turn their heads toward a window.
2. Once your baby is asleep, gently move her head to the non-preferred side.
3. Try placing an attractive toy on the side of the crib or playpen to encourage your baby to look in that direction.

Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you out in any further questions.

Brief Answer:
Not recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I won't recommend it at this age.

None of these positioners is considered safe. For example, sleep positioners that are supposed to keep babies on their back might seem like an effective way to help prevent SIDS or suffocation, but instead they themselves create a hazard.

The safest sleep environment for a baby, experts say, is a firm, flat mattress with nothing but a fitted sheet on it. Nothing else should be in the bed: no stuffed animals, blankets, pillows, bumpers, or positioners of any kind.

Hopefully this will help you.
Take care

Brief Answer:
Try gentle massage for neck muscles when baby is awake

Detailed Answer:
Hi

You may try gentle massage on side and back of neck with massage oil and turn head side to side gently when baby is awake , twice daily. This will relax any mild spasms which leads to such preferences while sleeping.

You may also do swaddling which is good in newborns.Swaddling is the art of snugly wrapping a baby in a blanket for warmth and security. Do it correctly that is the only thing. You may do it till 1-2 months of age.

If it doesn't improve with repositioning and massage, then go for a clinical examination by your pediatrician to rule out any torticollis which may be the underlying cause.

Don't worry, it will easily improve once the child grows.
