Is It Advisable To Replace A Missing Wisdom Tooth With Implant?

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Jul 2015
Question: I seek a 2nd opinion. Recently, my dentist recommended that I get an implant in my upper right area where I had a wisdom tooth. My dentist said that it will help balance the foundation of my mouth and prevent loss of bone. My dentist said that my teeth and gums are attempting to compensate for the missing tooth. I went to the oral surgeon, he said that I am a candidate for an implant because the distance between my nasal cavity and bone are sufficient. When he showed me the x-ray, the distance seemed bordered line to me. I do not want to risk damage to my sinuses and health. I have stable health now. Also, I do not want any metal/mercury in my mouth. I replaced my metal fillings with non-metal fillings. I did research a non-metallic implant but the oral surgeon did not approve. What do you think? What is the worst that can happen if I do not get this implant? Is it necessary? If so, what are the best non-metallic implants?

Brief Answer:
upload the images,no need to replace wisdom teeth, radiograph

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the missing wisdom tooth is concerned, There is no need to replace a wisdom tooth with an implant. Usually we replace upto 1st molar, in certain conditions maximum upto 2nd molar. So I would like to know the following details from you.
1. which all teeth are missing?
2. do you have any medical issues,
3. Do you smoke?

Regarding the non metallic implants you can go for zirconia implants.
To place an implant and decide the type of implant which suits you depends upon the area, type of bone(D1,D2,D3,D4), Approximation to the vital structures.
So if you can upload the images of the site where you are advised to go for implants and you need to get a radiograph done like OPG(ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH) to check the status of the bone. So after taking radiograph you can upload the images, so that i can advise you whether you need implants or other type of prosthesis.

Regarding the type pf implants, the non metallic implants have better corrosion resistance, better esthetics, better compatibility with bone and it is basically indicated in patients who are sensitive to metallic implants.
I hope i have answered your query. If any queries are there, then reply me back.
Take care.
