Question: I had an MI on April 6, 2015 with 100% occulded RCA a stent was placed successfully I also have 70% occlusion in 3 arteries on the left side of my heart. My cardiologists can not decide if further stenting is required or by pass is required. I still have chest pain daily multiple times and my exercise tolerance is poor especially climbing stairs vacuuming doing laundry etc I was on 40mg of Lipitor and other cardiac meds I had an adverse reaction to Lipitor it felt as if my legs were made out of wood. I D/C Lipitor and consulted my cardiologist who was reluctant to stop the Lipitor I am concerned because I also have XXXXXXX and I know Lipitor is hard on the liver I am also a diabetic . please advise

Brief Answer:
Lowering your LDL is a must at this time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these blocked vessels and all the inconveniences this must have caused you. I have reviewed your information fully.

At this time, taking acre of the heart takes precedence over potential risk of drugs. With a heart attack already and other blocked arteries, we cannot afford to allow high levels of cholesterol to continue to aggravate the blockages. Though the side effects are severe, i will rather recommend that you change the medication and not get off it. Lipitor has substitutes that may turn out to be more friendly. I will recommend that at worse you try this rather than going off your medications. With a persistence of chest pains, I will recommend CABG at this time. Stenting seem less likely to fully address stye problem because of the extent of the blockage.

Lipitor affects the liver. With XXXXXXX it makes it more concerning. However, regular blood tests would be able to see if the live is being greatly damaged. There are guidelines on when to discontinue lipitor based on the levels of liver enzyme tests.

In all, taking care of the heart at this time is the priority. Though it doesn’t go without other consequences, the benefits outmatch the potential risk and adverse effects.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
