Is It Advisable For Women To Used Mintop? How Long Before Results Are Seen?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Oct 2012
Question: Whether Mintop 10 is advisable to be used by ladies?
If used, how many months are required to see the result?
How long this medicine can be used?

I would highly appreciate getting an immediate reply, as my wife has been using the same for the last 2 weeks.

Hi!,

Thank you for posting the query,

No ,mintop 10 % is not recommended for ladies as it can cause facial hair growth in females .In females we usually use maximum 3% of the same solution .This can be used for long and later on switch over to 2% solution of minoxidil .This should be used for at-least 6-8 months for proper response.

Your wife is most probably having telogen effluvium as she had suffered from low platelet count and was admitted for the same.Such a stressful condition usually leads to hair loss after 3 months of the illness.

Hope I've answered your query.

Should you have additional concern regarding the same ,I would be happy to address it.

Please accept my answer in case you do not have further queries.

Hi!,

Thank you for writing back,

In females the most common cause of hair loss is –iron deficiency, hormonal imbalance, thyroid problem, stress, chronic illness, lack of sleep, familial ,or use of chemical on scalp ,procedures like perming or straightening etc. Other rare causes are zn & copper def. One has to find the exact cause of hair loss and treat. In females there are various patterns of hair loss, which can be judged clinically by a dermatologist.

I havn't examined your wife personally ,but with the little history you had given it seems that she is suffering from Telogen Effluvium (since it has started after her illness).

In such cases minoxidil works very good ,but would take long to recover .Since she has lost half of her hair & looking at her age ,I would advise her to use a combination medicine of topical minoxidil & finestride (3%) solution . This needs to be used long for atleast 3 months .Later on she can switch over to 2% solution of minoxidil plain ,which again needs to used for atleast 6-8 months topically.

Along with this she can take tablet Biotin for about 6 months .Since these are all prescription based medicines ,I would advise you to consult a competent dermatologist for proper prescription & follow up.

She should improve her diet with XXXXXXX leafy veg, fresh fruits, plenty of water, sprouts ,pulses, high protein diet, milk & ghee & dry fruits.

Avoid items with high sugar content like sweets & chocolates, Chinese foods, pizza & burgers .
Good sleep also has a important role to play .

I thank you again for submitting your question. I hope you found my response to be helpful and informative. If you have any additional concerns I would be happy to address them.

Please accept my answer in case you do not have further queries.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX Chawda,
Thank you Doctor for furhter advise. I speculate that you are away from our residential area i.e. Cochin, so that personal consulatation is not possible. Therefore, it will be very helpful, if you recommend an expert dermatologist from Cochin.

Looking forward to hear from you,

But there is a section in this website which can guide you to a dermatologist in cochin .You can even google your search for a dermatologist near your place. All dermatologist are competent enough to treat such kind of hair loss. You can even get a dermatologist in any government medical college if there is any.
