Is Inflammation On Jaw A Sign Of HIV?

Posted on Thu, 10 Dec 2015
Question: Hi, Doctors from HealthcareMagic. It's been a extremely stressful week for me ,so for the past 10 days I hired 4 different escorts and had protected vaginal sex with all of them, 2 of them I also had protected oral sex (receiving a blowjob) with. The recent two are pretty upscale so I'm not too worried, but the first two I'm a little worried. About 6-7 days after my first one, I started to feel a little bump on my left lymph node under my jaw, it's not even visible if I don't mention it to people but It's there, and it doesn't hurt if I touch it, but it's i can feel it's there. I don't have any other flu symptoms yet, is it possible this can be a symptom for HIV or other STD, I'm gonna wait another 1-2 weeks and get myself checked but it's literally killing me day and night like waiting for a death sentence. A side note is that I did take a sexual enhancement called "Stiff Night" and I was overly active sexually for about 5-6 days, like at least 3-4 ejeculation per day due to the effect, which really tires me out yet, and I didn't get too much sleep either( about 5 hrs/day). I read online that it has significant side effect ( some said it can potentially kill you )afterward. Can the swelling be due to fatigue so my immune system is down playing itself or maybe a viral infection. I'm extremely worried and regret my stupidity in the past week, please help if you can Doctor. I used a condom the whole time for all sexual activity and didn't do any kissing or provide oral sex with any of the escorts.

Brief Answer:
The possibility of getting HIV infection is very less.

Detailed Answer:
Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,

Welcome to HCM.

You had protected sex with all the escorts then the risk of getting HIV is obviously very less.

As far as the swelling on the jaw is concerned it is mostly due to some other infection or fatigue you have not related to HIV so no need to worry much.

You can get tested after 15 days with HIV RNA PCR or 4th generation HIV Duos test to be sure enough about your status till then be relaxed.

Having multiple sexual partners is high risk for HIV so as your friend I will also advice you to stay away from such unsafe practices to prevent the future risk of HIV and other STDs.

Thank You

Thank you Dr. Jangid

Yeah I very much deeply regret the decision. Other than being very fatigued due to lack of sleep for a long period of time ( 2-3 weeks), I've also taken huge amount of caffeine and had a diet very high in fat and sodium ( deep fried food mostly), can those be factors that contribute to my swollen left lymph node? I did start getting a bit of a sore throat last night. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It can be due to unhygienic and unhealthy daily living leading to infection

Detailed Answer:
Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxx,

The swollen lymph node can be due to unhealthy daily living like high fat diet, high intake of caffeine and lack of sleep which will lead to infection.

For sore throat you can take some decongestants as per expert advice. Do warm water gargles and take steam inhalation. All these symptoms are not at all related to HIV so no need to take unnecessary stress or tension. Be relaxed and go ahead.

Thank You

Thank you Dr. Jangid. So my swollen lymph node can be due to fatigue and bad living habit? And what's the earliest possible time I can get HIV tested since initial exposure?

Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (11 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
You can get tested at-least after 15 days since initial exposure.

Detailed Answer:
Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,

You can get tested at-least after 15 days of initial exposure to get some accurate result because the window period for HIV varies from 15 days to 3 months.
