Is Frozen Restasis Eye Drops Safe?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 May 2016
Question: Hello Doctor,
I use Restasis eye drop medication. About 3-4 weeks ago I had about 11 boxes of Restasis in my car trunk for a couple days during freezing temperatures (I forgot it was in the car). The Restasis froze. It is now thawed and in my apartment. Would this freezing and thawing process make the Restasis either useless or even harmful for me to use?
Thank you for your reply.

Brief Answer:
Do Not use it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your query.

It has to be discarded.
I'll provide you the storage information provided for this medication.

Store Restasis drops at room temperature, between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not freeze.

So discard it.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
