Is Frenum Repositioning Advisable Along With Orthodontic Treatment For Teeth Protrusion?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: @Dr. XXXXXXX

can frenum repositioning be done prior to orthodontic treatment in cases of lower teeth spacing and front teeth protrusion?

I met an orthodontist and he referred me to oral surgeon to perform it. this is contrary to one orthodontist i met before who only advised that i will need a tongue crib to avoid future protrusion after treatment.
I am worried to have the repositioning done to avoid my cheeks from relapsing. please advise.

Brief Answer:
Spacing, freenal attachment, tongue thrusting, freenectomy, palatal crib

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the spring in the lower front teeth is concerned, this can be because of the high freenal attachment. In such cases, you need to get a freenectomy done by a oral and mazillofacial surgeon.
The other possible cause of spacing between teeth can be a tongue thrusting habit. If you have this habit, you need to get a tongue or palatal crib appliance to break this habit.
So consult a good oral physician and get it evaluated. If possible upload the images of the teeth so that I can tell you the exact cause of spacing and I will be able to give a ideal treatment plan.
I hope I have answered your query. if any queries are there reply mail back. Take care.

Doctor, part of my dental history is that my lower front teeth protruded and moved backward after I had one of my second molar and one wisdom tooth were removed on each side 10-12 years ago. The diastema on the lower teeth was like exactly the one on the upper. pls find attached the images showing my frenum on the upper and lower jaw. thank you Doctor.

Brief Answer:
High free nah attachment, surgical correction

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feed back. I have gone through your images. As per the images, you have a huge diastema secondary to high freenal attachment. You need to get it surgically corrected first and then you can get the diastema treated by orthodontic treatment. Consult a good orthodontist and get it treated.
I hope I have answered your query. If any queries are there reply me back. Take care.

Brief Answer:
Freenectomy, no effect on lip, gum surgery

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback. Nothing to worry about the lip.. The freenectomy will not affect your lip. You can go ahead with the freenectomy procedure.
Regarding your receded gums, you can get a periodontal surgery done.
I hope I have answered your query. take care.
