Is Foamy Urine A Sign Of Kidney Problems?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Aug 2015
Question: I just read that bubbles or foam in your urine can be a sign of kidney disease. I have no symptoms but notices bubbles a few days ago. Some bigger ones that pop immediately and some clusters of small ones that pop but a bit more slowly and are generally at outer edge of bowl or move there. No bubbles during one urination today.

I have drunk coffee for the last few weeks - one cup daily. This is new. I haven't done so in some time. I am also ovulating and have had quite a bit of egg white discharge the last few days.

I did an experiment per the internet. I peed into a cup and poured the urine (large amount) into the bowl hitting porcelain only. Only 2 or 3 bigger bubbles that popped immediately.

No other symptoms. No swelling. Urine is pale yellow.I am well hydrated.

I do stick loosely to a gluten free diet as I have Lichen Sclerosus and it helps keep me asymptomatic. I am trying to monitor my protein intake, though last Saturday I ate a protein heavy few days - lobster, etc...

Please advise.

Brief Answer:
dont think this is worrying

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.

I dont think this is indicating any disease since certain amouint of foam or bubbles is normal and if this is present without any symptoms, such as burning pain, fever, pain in flanks, blood in urine or dark urine. So I don think there is any disorder, especially in your age . IF you want to ,you can check your urine by stick home test or visit doctor an ddo basic urine analysis and ultrasound of kidneys.
Wish you good health. Regards

I will do a pee stick test, but if normal, is ultrasound really necessary?

Again, no other symptoms, and very good health.

Can ovulation mucus cause some bubbles? You think my situation is normal?

Brief Answer:
i think this is normal

Detailed Answer:
Ovulation can be cause of, as well as normal vaginal secretion. Certain food or drinks may change urine look as well. This isnt indicating any pathology if there are no symptoms. Ultrasound should be done if signs of uroinfection are present so it is not necessary.

What are signs of kidney disease? I read that early disease can have no symptoms. No kidney problems in my family history. Father is diabetic and his kidneys are fine. I saw no bubbles during a urination yesterday but they are back today.
