Is Fluctuating Pain In Pinky Finger A Symptom Of Lung Cancer?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Apr 2016
Question: i have had pain in my pinky finger for about 3 weeks. The level of pain fluctuates from very stiff and tender (mostly in the morning) to just mildly irritating. There was no trauma to the hand and only very minimal swelling if any at all. When I look it up online one of the causes of this type of pain is end stage lung cancer. Obviously i find this very alarming. I have been to the doctor for an X-ray but those results won't be back for a few days. I am a 36 year old male, non-smoker, and feel fine apart from the finger.

Any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
pain in pinky finger

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

End stage lung cancer does not present with isolated pain in the pinky finger. Its highly unlikely to present as such. x ray results are usually available within a few minutes. Such pain is usually the result of twisting injury often sustained during sleep. Traumatic cause is the most likely cause. Ulnar nerve entrapment at the elbow is also a likely cause. NSAIDs, B 12 supplementation alone are usually enough. Try to avoid any stressful work that utilizes the little finger. If you are still worried about lung cancer then your doctor may advise a chest x ray and blood counts for your peace of mind though he should reassure you first about the chances being really low.

Wishing you best of health
