Question: I am thirty-eight and yesterday I was diagnoised with multiple esophageal ulcers and upper stomach ulcers. I have not had any previous symptoms of reflux. I am very concerned about developing some kind of esophageal cancer. We have no family history and I am not sure what my risk are. I do not drink or smoke was slightly over weight after the birth of my kids but through diet and exercise have lost most of the weight.
They did biopsies but I am still waiting for the results.

Brief Answer:
ulcer is unlikely result to cancer. read ahead

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Multiple ulcers in esophagus and upper stomach usually have following reasons:-
One is hyperacidity which causes erosions in mucosa and causes ulcers.
Second is Helicobacter Pylori infection which also causes ulcers.
Third is overuse of painkillers especially NSAIDS group like aspirin, ibuprofen, paracetamol for other reasons like pain or others.
If you are taking any of the above medicines kindly stop it right away.

Biopsy study will show the presence or absence of h. Pylori infection or not. If present then a course of antibiotics will take care of it.
From what you have mentioned it does not look like you are predisposed to getting esophageal cancer or even colonic cancer.
Your age is also quite less to get any of them.
What I can suggest you now is to continue taking the medication you mentioned regularly. Wait for biopsy report and follow up with it.
Stop worrying about getting cancer because it can happen to any one anytime. Being anxious and worried about things is also a big contributor to gastric ulcers. So it might be possible your fear of cancer have lead to formation of ulcers. You need to relax about the fear of cancer and do not be worried of it.
If you want you can get a colonoscopy done for your mental satisfaction but I guarantee it will be normal and waste of your time and money.
Also some dietary modifications will be necessary. Avoidance of spicy and oily food will help in less irritation of the ulcer. Drinking cold milk during sleeping will help alleviate the symptoms.
So do not worry. Stay happy. Eat healthy. Take medical help immediately whenever required.
You can follow up with me with the biopsy report or your doctor for further advice.
If you have any further questions kindly ask me.
Thank you
