Is Abrubpt Stopping Of Plavix Intake Safe?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 May 2014
Question: I am having many side effects that I believe are related to Plavix. Can you safely stop taking Plavix after being on it for just 12 days? I suffered a CVA on March 22nd and then last weekend went into hospital with severe chest and stomach pain.

Brief Answer: Plavix should not be discontinued Detailed Answer: Hi.Thanks for writing on HCM. Severe stomach pain and chest pain is suggestive of gastritis which is one of the common side effects caused by Plavix. Plavix is an antiplatelet/blood thinner which has to be taken after suffering from CVA without fail for rest of your life.I would not discontinue Plavix since it increases the chance of future episode of CVA and hence unsafe. I were to advise Tab. Rabeprazole 20mg - reduces acidity (in empty stomach daily half an before breakfast) followed by plavix after breakfast. I would also like to know if you have any other side effects if any. Hope this answers your query.Get well soon
