Question: My Baby is 9 Months old. She is suffering from fever from past 2 days. Mediactions going on are Ziffi 100 2 times in a day 3 ml for 5 days and T-98 parcetamol drops 1.5 ml , 3-4 times in day for 1-2 days. Today she is well , but she is getting high body temperature in sleeping mode (101-102degree F). Can I give Ziffi 100 for 3 times or there is a need to change mediation . Paracetamol I have stopped As It was for 2 Days only.

Brief Answer:
Please stop antibiotic Zifi and five only Paracetamol - looks like viral

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics (like Cefixime) at all.

Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.

Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (maximum ceiling dose of 500mg) every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.

Brief Answer:
Do not use Meftal-P - side effects are more, it is an NSAID

Detailed Answer:
Hi... I understand your concern about fever. Please do nto use Meftal-P. Meftal-P contains Mefenamic acid which is a NSAID. It carries the risk of gastritis and renal problems in the long run. Please do not use Meftal-P.

Use only T-98 or if the taste is a problem, please use P-250 instead.

Doses in pediatrics are not age based. They are weight based. Please get back to me with weight of the kid and I will suggest you the appropriate dose of P- 250

SUGGESTIONS ON MEFENAMIC ACID

Detailed Answer:
Hi....I I can understand your confusion. This is not my individual opinion. I have even published a paper regarding the usage of mefenamic acid and its side effects in a reputed XXXXXXX paediatric Medical Journal. I am here by giving you the link to read it. Please go through the publication and you can follow what is best for your kid.

Regarding the dose of suspension P- 250 for your child, you need to give 3 ml of the suspension every 4 or 6 hourly only if temperature is more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Brief Answer:
T-98 dose is 6ml....T-98 DS dose is 3ml

Detailed Answer:
Hi....T-98 (strength 125mg/5ml) dose is 6ml.

T-98 DS (strength 250mg/5ml) dose is 3ml.

It is safe to give Paracetamol provided you give in the appropriate dose and give its only when temperature is above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, after checking with a thermometer.
