Is Tamoxifen Effective In Treatment Of Breast Cancer?
Question: I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and Dcis in situ. dais in situ was found in both breasts and invasive stage 1A in one. I ended up having a bilateral mastectomy. My oncologist has prescribed tamoxifen for me and stated as there was no cancer in lymph nodes and I had a mastectomy , I do not require any radiation or chemotherapy. I know that cancer cells slip out in operations and I wonder if tamoxifen is sufficient to kill any floating cancer cells? XXXXXXX

After mastectomy for dcis or even small focus of invasive cancer there is no role for RT. Chemo does have some role in invasive cancer but usually when the tumor is large, node positive, grade 3, estrogen receptor negative, etc.
I guess there are none of these risk factors in you. Hence rightly you have not been recommended any chemo. Tamoxifen alone should be sufficient.
