Is TSH Level Of 3.8 During Pregnancy A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: My wife is pregnant 28 weeks. She had no history of hypo or hyper Thyroid levels. Her doctor insists on every month for TSH level test. She in her initial months had a TSH level of 3.8 . After that her doctor had advised daily dosage of 12.5 Mcg Thyronorm. Subsequent tests every month showed TSH level under 2. Recent test on 31st December showed a high level of TSH which is 4.94. We were not convinced with this sudden jump from 1.93 to 4.94. Doctor advised us to increase the dosage to 50 Mcg. For getting doubly sure we tested the TSH again on 3rd XXXXXXX from another Lab. This report showed TSH level as 2.24. Now we are confused can it vary this much in 3 days or one of the test was not correct. Also now we are thinking if TSH level is really not that high then will the high dose of medicine cause any side effect. Please suggest.
