Brief Answer: LASIK is very safe and I recommend it. Detailed Answer: Hello Welcome to Health care magic Iam Dr. Dadapeer K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye. It seems from the history that you are having refractive error and wearing glasses for treatment of refractive error. You want to undergo LASIK surgery to correct the refractive error and to have a spectacle free life and it is a good decision. LASIK is a type of refractive laser surgery and it is done to correct refractive errors. LASIK is the most common and most popular refractive laser surgery. LASIK is a very safe procedure and it has got very good success results and minimal or no complications, hence no need to worry regarding the complications of LASIK. The complications are very minimal and with adequate pre operative tests they can be reduced to nil. The most common problem which people experience in the post operative period is dryness of eyes and this is usually transitory and lasts for few weeks and can be effectively prevented by use of artificial tears eye drops. Hence there is no need to worry regarding the success or regarding complications following the procedure. Before undergoing the LASIK you need to fulfill minimal requirements, the requirements are Age more than 21 years Adequate corneal thickness Stable refractive error Refractive error within the range of correction by LASIK Since you are aged more than 21 years you are eligible to undergo surgery. The corneal thickness will be measured by doing orbscan and depending on this your fitness for surgery will be decided by your treating surgeon. If the corneal thickness is not adequate you can go for other refractive surgeries like phakic intraocular lens. The refractive error has to be stable for at least 1 year. LASIK can correct up to 10 dioptres of myopia , 6 dioptres of hypermetropia and 4 dioptres of astigmatism. I hope your refractive error comes in this range. You can send me the details of your refractive error and the prescription power of your glasses if you have the details, so that I can answer you more accurately. There are very good eye hospitals in Delhi for performing this procedure and I recommend Centre for sight hospital which is one of the best in the country for refractive laser surgeries. Hope I have answered your questions and the information is helpful to you. Thank you
