Is HRV Device Suitable For Checking The Heart Rate Variation?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Oct 2015
Question: I am agoraphobic and have a family history of heart complaints. I believe it may have something to do with an under stimulated vagus nerve. There are now non invasive vagus stimulators hitting the market, but unfortunately not in Australia yet. I want to find a HRV device that is easy to read and affordable to check my heart rate variation, a device that is used in research to check vagal activity. I also want to ask my psychiatrist if he can do some research with me to get one approved in Australia. Can you advice me on a device that is easy to use and provide some biofeedback for me?

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear ,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Agoraphobia is usually a psychological disorder which can be controlled to some extent with psychotherapy and some medications.
family history of heart disease needs to be elaborated more about the diagnosis.
Autonomic function testing can be done on a good lab which monitors both sympathetic and parasympathetic functions during various maneuvers.
HRV devices are available online for purchases but should be purchased after consulting your treating neurologist or psychiatrist.
