Is Diane-35 A Safe Medicine For PCOS?

Question: Good day,
I missed my period for last month (I have regular monthly periods) and I know that I am not pregnant. I went to the doctor and I have been placed on a combination of medications for PCOS. One of which is Diane-35, could you please tell me if this is safe for me to take if I had superficial thrombophlebitis across the length of my bicep in my right arm 3 years ago. It spontaneously came up for the first time and I have never had it again since. I also did a Doppler test at that time which showed that everything else was fine. Thanks in advance.

Diane-35 is a combination of anti-androgen (Cyproterone) and estrogen for use in the treatment of PCOS and hirsutism.

Superficial thrombophlebitis or past H/O thromboembolic disorder is an ABSOLUTE contraindication of using estrogen-containing oral contraceptive pill.

Though, your previous Doppler study was absolutely fine, it is better to AVOID estrogen- containing pill, which may aggravate the condition. Progesterone pill can be taken alternatively to induce and regularize your period.

I suggest to consult with your treating doctor regarding this once again and take proper guidance. It will be worthwhile.

Take LOW carbohydrate diet, control body weight by doing regular exercise and maintain genital hygiene.

Thank you for your response. I will take your advice and also consult with my doctor.
As it relates to the other medications (Glucophage 500mg and Provera 10mg) that were prescribed, are these safe to take?
