Is Cytomegalovirus Infection The Reason For The Absence Of Fetal Heart Beat?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Oct 2016
Question: Hi doctor, I am 34 yrs old. Recently, I got pregnant. At about 6 weeks, I had a alight bleeding, then at about 5 days later I again had slight breathing. I informed my doctor, she prescribedme to take an injection named Bharglov which is Human normal Immunoglobulin. Before that also I took HCG injections weekly. At 8 weeks 3 days I had a slightly more bleeding. That time I went to doctor. She did a TVS scan and she found out that the fetus had no heart and its size had not increased from the 6 weeks. She advised to do D& C. I was also advised to do TORCH test . I got positive of Cephamegaloviruses. I was prescribed Natclovir. I would like to know whether the absence of heart beat is due to this virus and whether taking natclovir can affect my future pregnancy . When can I plan for my next pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
Not related to cytomegalovirus

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Saw your reports.

Cytomegalovirus virus shows IgG positive meaning old infection and not new infection.

Cytomegalovirus is not reason for absence of heart beat. This is old and healed infection and need not be treated with any medicines like natclocir.

Thanks for the answer doctor. My follow up question is what could be the reason for the absence of heart beat. Should I discontinue taking natclovir or distinuing this might affect my future pregnancy. When can I get conceived again.

Brief Answer:
Finish Natclovir course

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Most probable reason for missed abortion (absence of heart beat) is some unknown chromosomal abnormalities in the baby. This is most common reason and may not repeat again.

There is no need of Natclovir. Since you have started it, complete course as advised.

You can try conceiving now itself.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

Dear doctor,
I was advised to take 3 capsules per day of natclovir 250 for 3 weeks. Since I learned from internet dat natclovir has many side effects I was thinking of stopping it. I had consumed it for 5 days. Should I stopped it or shalll I reduced the dose like taking it once daily for about 3 weeks. Please advise.
I did my D & C on 27 august. Now the bleeding has almost stopped. Should I wait for my periods to come properly or should I try to conceived now.
One more thing doctor, I didn't have sex with my husband during my last pregnant but we often kissed and cuddle each other as a result I often liquify that is I released some fluid vaginal discharge. Is this hav any connection with the miscarriage?

Brief Answer:
Continue Natclovir

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Continue and finish Natclovir as you have started it. Let me know if you are feeling any side effect.

Vaginal fluid is for lubrication and is normal. No need to worry about it.

Try for next pregnancy now itself. No need to wait.

Dear doc
Thanks for the advice. In my house, I stayed upstairs as there is no empty room downstairs. So, during early days of my last pregnancy before miscarriage, I use to go up and down the stairs to do my household chores. But since a little bleeding or spots were present at about 6 weeks, my doc advised me to take rest. Ant when I did tvs scan at 8weeks, my doc told me der is no heart beat and the embyro has not developed it size from that of the 6 weeks. Is der any connection with my movement in those days and with my miscarriage. Pliz advise

Brief Answer:
No

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There is no relation to movement and miscarriage. I don't think climbing up and down is related to miscarriage.
