Infant Bumped Head And Scraped Forehead And Nose. Why Is He Pointing Neck? What Should I Do?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Jul 2012
Question: My 3 year old son fell 4 days ago and hit his head on the pool deck. He had a bump and scraped up forehead and nose, bloody nose and mouth. He did not lose consciousness. He screamed for 45 min and kept pointing to the very bottom of the front of his neck saying it hurt. He has cries out at night multiple times since this has happened and points to that spot at times saying he can't talk. Could he have damaged something inside of his throat/neck area that I can't see?

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
After the fall, since there was bleeding from both nose and mouth, an XXXXXXX injury of the head is likely. The persistent pain and intermittent cries are also indicative of an XXXXXXX trauma. He needs a detailed physical examination and investigations like MRI scan of head and neck to find out the extent and seriousness of the injury he has suffered.
You need to consult a neurologist for a detailed evaluation. The treatment will then depend on the diagnosis.
I hope this answers your query.
