Question: I'm experiencing some chest discomfort where I'm having a hard time eating, but I have been having a lot of confusion, foggiest, and feel like my floating. I don't feel like doing anything but sleep. I went to Portugal back in September and I stopped taking the seroquil cold turkey and I have not felt better since I have seen counsellors and she states it not depression. Please help

Hello, and thanks for your question.

I'm sorry you are not feeling well. Here are my thoughts about your situation.

The symptoms you are describing are consistent with major depressive disorder. I must disagree with the counselor who said you are not depressed. Low appetite, hypersomnia, poor concentration, low energy -- these are all cardinal symptoms of depression. You say you stopped taking Seroquel cold turkey -- I recommend restarting this medication as soon as possible, as this can treat depression.

To rule out medical causes of these feelings, you can get some basic blood testing including a complete blood count, comprehensive metabolic panel, thyroid function tests, and a Vitamin D level. But your symptoms are consistent with depression and would likely improve with Seroquel.

Detailed Answer:
It will take some time for Seroquel to kick in once it is at the appropriate dose. It may take up to 8 weeks to feel the full benefit. The GI symptoms associated with Seroquel usually will go away within 4 weeks. With some patience, you will get better.
