Question: I hope I didn't wake anybody. I woke up about 2 am due to a pain to my lower back on the left side. The pain is coming from the back bone that is part of the hip bone. the pain eminates from there to about two inches in all directions. I used my weed eater yesterday morning so I think that maybe I pulled something or hurt a nerve. I took some pain killer but that does not help. I also used a hot pad but not helping.

Brief Answer:
Other pain medication may be more effective

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

With your history of using the weed eater, a pulled muscle seems to be a very likely cause. Excedrin may not be the most effective pain medication in that case. More effective in cases like this is often Ibuprofen or local anaesthetic injections, or chiropractic intervention. However, this may take up to a week to get better.

Please check with your local gp or orthopedist if ibuprofen, local injections or chiropractic intervention is applicable for you, and if other causes are eventually possible, such as kidney infection or kidney stones.

Best regards
